Jeff Agnor, Chair

 

Jeff Agnor is an attorney with Davis, Agnor, Rapaport & Skalny, LLC in Columbia, Maryland, where he represents businesses, entrepreneurs, and nonprofit organizations.  He dedicates his volunteer time expertise to entrepreneurial and economic development, local arts, and environmental initiatives.  In addition to his work with the Robinson Foundation, Jeff serves on the Board of Directors of the Howard County Green Business Council.  He also serves as Chair of the Advisory Board for the Howard Community College Center for Entrepreneurial and Business Excellence.  He believes that economic growth and sustainability are compatible goals. Jeff enjoys taking nature hikes with his family, especially in the Middle Patuxent Environmental Area.

 

 

Jim Caldwell

 

Currently Stormwater Manager for the Howard County Office of Sustainability, Jim is a leader in water quality protection, forest and wildlife conservation, and sustainable development.  His long dedication to environmental protection is grounded in training in wildlife zoology from Ohio State University and a Masters in Environmental Management from American University.   He served for over a decade as Director of the Department of Environmental Protection in Montgomery County and contributed to Howard County’s environmental protection efforts as a member of Howard Community College’s Commission on the Future – Sustainability Task Force, as a member of the county’s Environmental Sustainability Board, and as director of Howard County’s Green Building Council.  In addition, he is the Chair of the Science Advisory Council of the Maryland Science Center.

 


Vanessa Deutschmann

 

Vanessa is currently Senior Operations Manager of a six-state region for SolarCity, a leading integrator of solar energy systems in North America. Her career in renewable energy began in 2002 when she was a senior manager and part owner of Chesapeake Solar, one of Maryland’s first successful solar energy companies.  Chesapeake Solar was recognized as an Inc Magazine top 500 fastest growing company in the US in 2007 and was acquired by another solar energy company in 2008. Vanessa also has extensive experience in nonprofit management with arts and social justice organizations, and she serves as a founding board member of the Howard County Green Business Council.  Along with her husband, Richard, Vanessa is committed to “walking the walk” and lives in a home powered with 4.5kw of solar electric power, a solar domestic water heating system, an air heating system, and passive solar design –- among other green building attributes.



Joel Goodman

Joel Goodman, a family dentist in Glenelg for almost 30 years, is dedicated to astronomy education in Howard County.  Joel currently leads the effort to develop programming for the Robinson Nature Center’s NatureSphere/Planetarium. He is the founder of Celestial Searchers, a youth astronomy group which has shared the wonders of the cosmos for 15 years with hundreds of elementary and middle school children.  In 2011, Celestial Searchers was registered as a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting astronomy education and increasing awareness of light pollution and smart lighting practices.  An officer of the Howard Astronomical League, Joel spearheaded a partnership with local government to build the County’s first publicly accessible observatory at Alpha Ridge Community Park.  He currently serves as chair of the County’s Recreation and Parks Advisory Board and is a founding member of the Washington Area Astronomy Outreach Coordinators.  Joel also teaches astronomy at Howard Community College.


 

Elizabeth H. Singer 

HoLLIE, the Howard County Legacy Leadership Institute for the Environment, led Betsy Singer to the Robinson Foundation. For nearly 30 years, she was Director of the Office fo Communications and Public Liaison for the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases of the National Institutes of Health.  Before retiring from NIH in 2009, she oversaw national education efforts to prevent and treat diabetes, digestive and kidney disease, and obesity.  Betsy believes that outdoor experiences can enhance physical, emotional, and mental well-being, and she is focusing her social marketing expertise toward motivating the public to protect the environment and prevent climate change.  She serves on the Coordinating Committee for HoLLIE, the Howard County Environmental Sustainability Board, and is a founding member of Climate Change Initiative of Howard County.
