Aldo Leopold Weekend PDF Print E-mail

Many thanks to everyone who joined our 2012 celebration of

Aldo Leopold Weekend, co-sponsored by the RobLogoGreenfire_rectangle3smallinson Nature Center.

Over 100 people gathered in the Nature Center auditorium for the

Howard County premier of the award winning documentary,

Green Fire, about the pioneering ecologist and author of A Sand County Almanac.

Participants also enjoyed for the third year a walk guided by local naturalist Jo Solem.  Jo pointed out not only the first wildflowers of spring but also blooming snowdrops planted years ago by Anne Robinson herself.

This annual event for the Robinson Foundation is part of a national celebration of Leopold's legacy organized by the Aldo Leopold Foundation of Baraboo, Wisconsin.  Through readings, discussions, movie screenings, and other activities, the event aims to increase awareness of Leopold's land ethic. As Leopold put it:

"The land ethic simply enlarges the boundaries of the community to include soils, waters, plants,

and animals, or collectively: the land."

The Robinson Foundation is already beginning to play our 2013 celebration. Please let us know your ideas and how you'd like to get involved.
